Using External Applications
Supercharging Your Workflow

Photo Supreme is already a powerful Digital Asset Management (DAM) solution, but one of its best-kept secrets is how smoothly it integrates with your favorite external applications. Whether you prefer a pixel editor like Photoshop or Affinity Photo, or a dedicated RAW processor such as DxO PhotoLab, Capture One, or ON1 Photo RAW, Photo Supreme makes it simple to send your images exactly where they need to go.

Why Use External Applications with Photo Supreme?

Every photographer has their preferred toolkit. While Photo Supreme excels at cataloging, organizing, and managing images, there are times when you need to step outside and perform edits in specialized software. The External Applications feature makes this effortless, acting as a bridge between your organized catalog and your creative tools.

This approach offers several advantages:

  • Speed – No need to hunt down files manually; send them straight from Photo Supreme.

  • Flexibility – Work with the editing application that best suits the task.

  • Control – Decide exactly which files (RAW, TIFF, JPEG) go to which editor.

Configuring External Applications

Setting up an external application is straightforward:

  1. Go to Preferences → Other Settings in Photo Supreme. The list of External Applications is at the top.

  2. Add a new application and point to the executable file of your editor (e.g., Photoshop.exe or AffinityPhoto.app).

  3. Repeat this for every application needed.

  4. Apply the Preferences.

Once configured, your external apps will appear as buttons in the toolbar, ready for one-click use.

Sending Images to External Applications

You can interact with your configured applications in two intuitive ways:

  • Button Click
Select one or more thumbnails in Photo Supreme, then click the external application’s button. The files will instantly open in the editor you’ve chosen.

  • Drag and Drop
For a more tactile workflow, simply drag the selected thumbnails and drop them onto the application button in the toolbar.

Both methods are designed to keep you in flow; no digging through folders or right-click menus.

Practical Example

Imagine you’re reviewing a batch of RAW files. You might:

  • Send a few to DxO PhotoLab for lens corrections and noise reduction.

  • Push another set directly into Photoshop for retouching.

  • Finish with a quick export into Affinity Photo for layered adjustments.

With Photo Supreme’s external application integration, all of this can be done seamlessly from your catalog.

Final Thoughts

The ability to configure and launch external applications directly from Photo Supreme is a small feature with a huge impact. It turns your DAM into the central hub of your photographic workflow, giving you fast access to the right tools at the right time.

If you’re not yet using this feature, give it a try: you may find it becomes one of your favorite ways to interact with your third-party editing software.
